Mary Taylor
Intangibles of intense mood, energy and atmosphere. Influenced by a background in exhibition design, I am interested in the structure of the landscape, considering both past and present. From observation while out in the landscape, from memory and the feel of the ambience of a selected place, starting a piece with mark making, working with acrylic, mixed media and print, each piece of work is a journey, emotionally developing slowly, building up layers over time. Collecting knowledge of a particular site by visiting frequently throughout the seasons, sketching, alongside photographs, and working back in my studio, I take elements of the landscape, exploring the literal quality, and by a process of deconstructing and reassembling my intention is to preserve the spirit of the original location in an semi abstracted way but still retain the elements of structure and atmosphere through line and colour without losing all recognition of place.
The path with no end.
